Thena Mars - Our Commitment to Sustainability index

OUR COMMITMENT TO SUSTAINABILITY

Sustainability Statement

At Thena Mars, we envision a fashion industry that resonates with both style and conscience. Committed to ethical practices, we focus on minimizing waste and reducing our environmental impact, ensuring our operations reflect our core values of sustainability.

Sustainable Operations

Recognized for our responsible approach, we engage in print-on-demand processes, significantly cutting down on overproduction and waste. This method not only ensures each piece is crafted with intention but also aligns with our commitment to quality over quantity.

Supply Chain Transparency

We select suppliers who uphold our ethical standards, ensuring transparency and integrity at every step of our supply chain.

Limited Edition Collections

By offering capsule collections, we limit overproduction, embracing a philosophy that prioritizes lasting fashion over fleeting trends.

Waste Reduction

From design to delivery, our operations emphasize recycling materials, optimizing resource use, and reducing packaging waste to the bare minimum.

Sustainable Materials

  • Organic Cotton: Our use of GOTS-certified organic cotton ensures sustainable farming practices, avoiding harmful pesticides and reducing environmental degradation.
  • Recycled Fabrics: By incorporating fabrics made from recycled materials, we substantially lower water and energy usage compared to conventional fabrics.
  • Biodegradable Dyes: Our commitment extends to using natural dyes, minimizing water pollution and avoiding toxic chemicals.

Understanding Our Impact

The fashion industry is a significant polluter, and we acknowledge its challenges:

  • Waste and Water Usage: Our print-on-demand model drastically cuts down fabric waste and reduces water consumption inherent in mass production.

  • Carbon Emissions: Conscious of our carbon footprint, we continuously seek methods to decrease our emissions through efficient logistics and renewable energy sources.

  • Microplastic Pollution and Deforestation: We are committed to reducing synthetic fibers in our products and are exploring alternatives to viscose to mitigate deforestation.

Our Journey Towards Sustainability

We are not perfect but are earnestly striving to enhance our sustainability. We are progressively incorporating eco-friendly materials and exploring innovative solutions like digital fabric printing to lessen environmental impacts.

Fashion Industry's Environmental Impact

The fashion industry is one of the largest polluters in the world, responsible for significant ecological damage:

  • Waste: Up to 85% of textiles end up in landfills each year, contributing to massive waste . Water Usage: The industry consumes approximately 93 billion cubic meters of water annually, a significant strain on global water resources .
  • Carbon Emissions: The fashion industry accounts for around 10% of global carbon emissions, exacerbating climate change.
  • Textile Waste: Annually, up to 92 million tons of textile waste is generated globally, according to the Ellen MacArthur Foundation. Fast fashion's emphasis on quick production cycles has led to a massive increase in disposable clothing, most of which ends up in landfills.
  • Water Usage and Pollution: The fashion industry is one of the largest consumers of freshwater, using around 93 billion cubic meters per year. The production of cotton alone requires vast amounts of water, and textile dyeing is a significant source of water pollution, releasing harmful chemicals into rivers and streams. According to the World Bank, 20% of global industrial water pollution is attributed to textile treatment and dyeing.
  • Carbon Emissions: The industry's carbon footprint is substantial, contributing to approximately 10% of global carbon emissions. The processing, production, and transportation of textiles consume significant amounts of energy, releasing greenhouse gases that exacerbate climate change. A McKinsey & Company report estimates that without substantial changes, emissions could rise by more than 50% by 2030.
  • Microplastic Pollution: Synthetic fibers like polyester, which make up around 60% of all fabrics produced, contribute to microplastic pollution. These fibers shed during washing, ending up in oceans and posing a threat to marine life, according to a study by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
  • Deforestation: The production of cellulose-based fibers such as rayon and viscose contributes to deforestation. Approximately 150 million trees are logged each year for fabric production, according to Canopy, a non-profit environmental organization. This deforestation threatens biodiversity and contributes to the loss of critical carbon sinks.

Addressing the Impact

The fashion industry's environmental impact is significant, but through sustainable practices and conscious consumer choices, it's possible to reduce these effects. By opting for eco-friendly materials, minimizing waste, and supporting ethical production, we can pave the way for a more sustainable fashion industry.

Future Plans

Looking ahead, we aim to expand our use of recycled and upcycled materials and to secure additional certifications that underscore our commitment to environmental stewardship. By evolving our practices and inspiring our customers to make conscious choices, we believe we can make a significant impact.
